Prem Reddy, MD, FACC, FCCP

Chairman of the Board

Dr. Prem Reddy completed his residency training in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease at the Down State Medical Center, S.U.N.Y. in Brooklyn, New York. In 1981, he moved to California and established his medical practice in the High Desert area of Southern California. Dr. Reddy is double Board-Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. He was awarded the honor of becoming a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology ("FACC") and a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians ("FCCP"). During his 25 years of practice in the High Desert, he was committed to the service of his patients and performed more than 5,000 cardiac procedures, including coronary angiography and angioplasty and permanent pacemaker implantations.

In 1994, Dr. Reddy built from the ground up an 83-bed acute care hospital,Desert Valley Hospital, (now expanded to 148 beds) in Victorville, California. Desert Valley Hospital received coveted accreditation with "commendation" in its first year of operation for the high quality of its services and continues to lead all hospitals in the area with the highest survey scores.

After selling a previous company, which included Desert Valley Hospital, Dr. Reddy founded Prime Healthcare Services ("PHS"), Inc. In 2001, Dr. Reddy repurchased the-then failing Desert Valley Hospital and the Desert Valley Medical Group and turned them back into successful entities that were once again able to serve the community and provide the highest quality of care.

Among the many accolades, Prime Healthcare Services was recognized as one of the “Top 15” Health Systems in the nation in 2013 by Truven Health Analytics, formerly Thomson Reuters. This was the third time in five years Prime has been recognized. In 2014, eight Prime Healthcare hospitals were ranked among the “100 Hospitals” in the nation. Prime Healthcare hospitals have been recognized for this award 27 times since 2003. In addition, eleven Prime Healthcare hospitals in 2013earned national recognition as "Top Performers in Key Quality Measures" from The Joint Commission, the leading Medicare accreditation organization in the country.

In 2012, Dr. Reddy was honored with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater San Diego Golden Achievement Award. In 2013, he was also named as one of the 50 Most Influential Physician Executives in Health Care by Modern Healthcare magazine. This was the third time in five years he received this recognition.

Throughout his career, Dr. Prem Reddy has been committed to serving the communities in which he works. In 1989, he established the Dr. Prem Reddy Family Foundation a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charitable organization with an initial gift of $1 million. Since that time, he has contributed over $20 million dollars to the Foundation. The Dr. Prem Reddy Family Foundation serves the health care needs of the High Desert communities in many ways, including a free public health library, a scholarship program for students in the health care field, and the support of other health care related charities. The Victor Valley Community College named their student health clinic, "Dr. Prem Reddy Student and Staff Health Center" and its allied health program, the "Dr. Prem Reddy School of Health Sciences," in honor of his $1 million donation to the program. The Western University of Health Science in Pomona, California, named its largest lecture hall the "Dr. Prem Reddy Lecture Hall," in honor of his many contributions to education in the health care field.

Dr. Reddy also founded the Prime Healthcare Services Foundation, a 501c(3) non-profit public charity, in 2006. The foundation owns six non-profit hospitals: Encino Hospital Medical Center, Huntington Beach Hospital, Knapp Medical Center, Montclair Hospital Medical Center, Pampa Regional Medical Center and Sherman Oaks Hospital. Each of these hospitals was donated to the foundation with no debt and are considered community assets.

Virg Narbutas, Regional CEO, Orange County

Virg Narbutas has been Regional CEO for Prime Healthcare Management's Orange County hospitals since October 2006. He is responsible for the management of four separately licensed general acute-care hospitals: 167-bed Garden Grove Hospital and Medical Center; 141-bed La Palma Intercommunity Hospital; 131-bed Huntington Beach Hospital; and 219-bed West Anaheim Medical Center.

Previously, Vanguard Health Systems owned West Anaheim Medical Center, where Virg had been CEO since February 2006. From 1994-2006 he worked for Kindred Healthcare/Vencor as CEO/Executive Director. He was responsible for the management of Kindred Hospital Westminster, Kindred Hospital Brea and Vencor Hospital Ontario. From 1984 to 1994, he worked for National Medical Enterprises, including as COO of Lakewood Regional Medical Center, from 1990-1994.

Virg is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He currently serves as a member of the Hospital Council of Southern California Executive Board. In addition, he has also served as Past President, Board of Trustees, United Hospital Association; past member, Board of Trustees, the Hospital Council of Southern California; and past member, Board of Trustees, California Hospital Association. He earned his BA degree in Biology, in 1979, and his Master of Public Health in Health Services Management, in 1985, both from UCLA.

Alan Smith, Regional CFO, Orange County

Alan Smith has been regional CFO for Prime Healthcare Services' Orange County hospitals since October 2006. Previously Vanguard Health Systems owned West Anaheim Medical Center where he served as CFO since September 2005. Alan has had a wide range of financial/healthcare experience including as Chief Financial Officer for Corona Regional Medical Center in Corona, CA; Senior Financial Manager at Cambio Health Solutions in Brentwood, TN; COO/CFO/Senior Vice President for Finance at RJR/Patrick County Memorial Hospital in Stuard, VA; CFO/Senior Vice President for Finance at Piedmont Healthcare Systems in Rock Hill, SC; Business Manager at Community Psychiatric Centers-Cedar Spring Hospital in Charlotte NC and Assistant Business Office Manager at Piedmont Healthcare System in Rock Hill, SC.

Alan earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Winthrop University, Rock Hill, SC, in May 1984 and his Masters in Health Administration from Seton Hall University, Newark, NJ in May 2001.

Alan is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. He serves as chairperson of the Hospital Association of Southern California's Medical Services for the Indigent Committee. He is also active in his community serving as Committee Chairman and Troop Chaplain for the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 127, Corona CA and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Foundation for Community and Family Health in Corona, CA.

Margo Perusse, CNO/Administrator

Margo Perusse, RN, BS, MBA has over 20 years experience in the Nurse Executive role. She began her nursing career at Centinela Hospital Medical Center (CHMC), a 403 bed facility where she held several positions beginning with staff nurse/team leader on a surgical unit. Other titles held include Administrative House Supervisor, Assistant Administrator and for the last 13 years at CHMC she served as VP Patient of Patient Care to include Chief Nursing Officer under Tenet. In addition to all nursing areas, responsibility included Home Health Agency, other clinical areas, Central Supply, Durable Medical Equipment, Social Service, Psych Services, Radiology, Pulmonary Cardiology, OT, PT and speech. As well as support services of Pharmacy, Medical Education and Medical Library.


Margo then worked for Citrus Valley Health Partners as Executive Director of all Maternal/Child services. She was successful in building this service to over 500 deliveries/month. She was appointed to the position of Chief Nurse Executive for two facility campuses; a total of 527 beds. She held that position for five years.

Margo has been the CNO/Administrator at La Palma Intercommunity Hospital since 2009. She is a member of the Association of California Nurse Leaders (ACNL) and a past member of Nursing Administrators Council of LA (NAC-LA).

MEDICAL LEADERSHIP

Hassan Alkhouli, MD, Regional Medical Director, Orange County

Hassan Alkhouli, M.D. joined the Medical Staff of La Palma Intercommunity Hospital in August 2005 and was appointed as the Medical Director in October 2006 when Prime Healthcare Services purchased the hospital. As Medical Director he monitors all clinical operations and acts as a liaison between the clinical staff and management. He is a private practice physician with Board Certification in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine and Emergency Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of Damascus, School of Medicine and completed his post graduate training at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston MA; Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, Chicago IL; and King/Drew Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of California, Irvine and he is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.

Sami Shoukair, MD, Chief Medical Officer

Sami Shoukair, M.D. joined the Medical Staff of West La Palma Intercommunity Hospital in 1981 and has served as the Chief Medical Officer since 2006. During his years at La Palma Intercommunity Hospital, he has been an active participant in the Medical Staff, serving as both Co-Medical Director of Cardiology and Medical Director of ICU-CCU since 1993. He is a private practice physician with Board Certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine/Cardiovascular Disease. He received his medical degree from American University of Beirut; Beirut, Lebanon and completed his fellowship at State University Upstate Medical Center; Syracuse, NY.
